Tips and Facts of Mallorca
Mallorca, a beautiful island in the Mediterranean, has a rich cultural heritage. Below, you will find some tips and facts.
LANGUAGES
The official languages are Catalan and Spanish, with Catalan being the main language spoken by the locals. The Mallorcan dialect of Catalan, known as “Mallorquí”, is widely used in everyday conversation. While Spanish is commonly spoken, many residents also understand and speak English, especially in tourist areas. This linguistic diversity adds to the island's charm and makes it easy for visitors to communicate and connect with the local culture.
CURRENCY
The official currency in Mallorca is the Euro (€). As part of Spain and the European Union, prices are generally consistent with those of mainland Europe. ATMs are readily available and most stores, restaurants and services accept credit and debit cards.
TIPPING
Although tipping isn’t required in Mallorca, it is appreciated, and in some places, it’s even expected. The tipping culture is more relaxed compared to places like the United States, but small gestures of gratitude are still common. Leaving 5-10% of the total bill is usually a good amount, though this can vary depending on the quality of service.
SIESTA TIME
In Mallorca, the traditional siesta usually takes place between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM. During this time, many shops, especially smaller local businesses, may close for a few hours. Therefore it's always good to check opening hours in advance.
ACTIVITIES AND TOURS
If you are interested in popular activities like boat trips, winery tours, or hot air balloon rides, we recommend you book them in advance, especially during the high season.
